When A Mother Closes Her Eyes
Mothers are more than vessels that carry and bare children.  They
are more than diaper changers, nurse maids and the supplier of others wants and needs.  Her value is not
in the title of a job, degree or anything that the World uses to define her.  She is an Emissary from God,
whose value is above rubies and pearls.  This messenger represents His soft place, strong hand, endurance
and love.   There is more strength in her little finger than the biceps of the strongest man.
Mother finds a way to feed, clothe and warm her children.  Even when faced with adverse situations,
be they from within or without, her strength and fierce sense of protection, will not allow her to fail.  She
is mamma bear, she wolf, the family’s matriarch and an enduring spirit.  Even when ill, she is a guiding
         spirit.
When
it is time to close her eyes, and enter into her rest, we do everything that we can to keep her on this Earth’s plane.
We cannot envision life without her, because she is felt in every fiber of our being.  Mother knows
things about us that no one else knows.  She prepares our favorite dishes like no one else can.
Mother has gone through much that all her children may succeed in life.  Even when they did not see
her as friend, she always had their best interest at heart.  You see, being an Ambassador from God, comes
with responsibility.  Usually, it is not until you become responsible for another’s life, be it a
child or adult, do you fully understand many of her actions.  After all, she sees further than you can on a clear day, which means she saw this
day.  Breathe, for God has granted you more than three score and ten years with her.  He
has given you time to do what you should, say what you need and gain all that you can from her.  She has
kissed you, taught, corrected and loved you all well.  Represent her well as you go through life, for it
is not your possessions that will meet you in the end, but how well you have served others in Jesus name.  Now
you must bid her farewell, and keep in mind, that you too will come to this place someday.  Until then,
may you allow God to use your life as an example of goodness to others.  Seek to serve not be served.  Cr. April  24, 2014, Ms. Alice B. Nixon-Barr.  This labor of love is not
