My
Mother My Friend
What a wonderful thing it is to have a loving mother. She is the
one who carried you for seven to nine months, gave birth to you, loved and cared for you most of your life. She
didn’t hold it against you that her breast may have begun to sag because of you, her hips spread a little or a lot and
she awoke with bags under her eyes because her little darling would not let her sleep at night. Growing up, you were a handful and you know it. Her way of correcting you was a special
task. Everything was done in love. Even as you grew older, she prayed more for you because
mother never stops being mom. She yet remained awake worrying about you when you were away from home and
kept you in her prayers. She was a role model, protector, advisor and ultimately became your best friend. When you were growing up she was more mommy than friend, and that’s the way it is supposed to be.
When you became an adult, mother readjusted herself. She realized that you would face many challenges
and be influenced by new friends and loves. Because she was wise, she became a friend as well.
In doing this, she had the upper hand. Mother has been where you are going and have been places
she never wants you to go. She has your best interest at heart and will do her best to lead you right.
You know that you can trust her to tell you the truth and have your back. After all, she carried
you, loved you, let you puke on her and even cleaned your little nasty butt. Mom knew your ups and downs,
and loved you unconditionally. Now that she has
answered the call of God, know that you are not alone. She remains within you and all her teachings you
now get to put to the test. Her spirit lives on as does her presence in your life. Today celebrate her life and legacy and know that every time you hear your name called and no one is
present that it is her. Carry her in your heart always and when you go to act, hear her words of wisdom.
You see she took so much time with you growing up, that when this day came, you would have enough memories to help
you through the remainder of your journey. You are not alone!
The wind will become mom’s hands and brush your cheeks. God’s sunshine will warm you
and remind you of her heart and the rain will serve as a reminder of her sorrow in leaving you. Keep in
mind too, that when rain falls to the ground, it causes new growth and that when each life ends on Earth a new life begins. CR. July 23, 2010. Ms. Alice B. Nixon-Barr. This work is not to be duplicated in any form, stored in a retrieval
